Bachelor of Arts (Sociology and Anthropology)

This program aims for academic excellence in order to produce knowledgeable graduates with the ability to critically analyze, synthesize, and review social phenomenon. These graduates also must be able to study and conduct research on social and cultural phenomena in a systematic way. Furthermore, it is the aim of the Faculty to generate graduates who embody the values of virtue, morality and social responsibility. The Faculty supports equality in education and improvements in organizational effectiveness.

Bachelor of Arts (Social Research)

This is a special undergraduate program in the Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology, which emphasizes students engaging in social research that is underwritten by informed theory and methodology. This course ensures that graduates build expertise and accuracy to achieve theoretically and methodologically sound social research. Graduates will be trained to conduct research ethically and morally. The course also facilitates students’ ability to effectively manage in-depth research and extract information in a fieldwork setting in order to generate cutting edge social research and contribute to the broader body of knowledge both domestically and internationally.

Graduate Programs

Master of Arts (Anthropology)

This program emphasizes classroom learning and advocates that students conduct research on their topics of interest. The program aims for students to develop critical thinking, and to be able to contemplate and connect diverse factors that are integral to the human condition. Graduates are expected to be able to explain phenomena by employing logic and critical analysis and then clearly propose novel ideas on their topic. The program consists of taught classes and a dissertation.

Master of Arts (Social Research)

This program provides knowledge in research planning throughout its entire process: from building skills in collecting data, in analyzing, in systematically interpreting the meaning of data, and in practicing social research. Students are expected to initiate and conduct an independent research project. The dissertation is compulsory.

Doctor of Philosophy (Anthropology)

This program emphasizes the students’ capacity to synthesize and assess the existing body of anthropological knowledge before identifying and engaging with a critical social issue. Students thereby generate research and create a body of knowledge that responds to the needs of society. Registration for taught classes, a qualification test and a dissertation are required.

PhD (research) | international program

Doctor of Philosophy
(Sociology and Anthropology)

Our PhD program aims to produce graduates with strong theoretical and methodological competency for critical social analysis. The program provides candidates with a comprehensive research training, with an option to focus on sociology, anthropology, or museum and cultural heritage studies. Candidates will develop their PhD research that integrates their disciplinary expertises and area specialization with extensive field research in local, regional, and transnational contexts. Graduates of this program will be equipped to pursue a career in higher education and academia, government and private sectors, as well as international organizations. The advantage of international research experience will also enhance their candidacy as lecturers, researchers, policy makers, consultants, curators, creators, and many others in the field of research and development.
