This sub-theme explores questions around gender, family, and generational relations across different geographical and cultural contexts. We invite panels and roundtable discussions that highlight the changes and continuities of the gender ideologies underlying contemporary human private and personal life. The changing meanings of marriage, family, parenthood, and ageing that accompany modernization and globalization are the focus of this sub-theme. New practices such as the global outsourcing of care and reproductive labor, long-distance parenting, online dating, same sex marriage and parenthood, technological assisted reproduction, and international retirement migration are among the possible subjects that can be explored under this sub-theme.
