Professor Mamadou Diawara นักมานุษยวิทยาชาวมาลี ณ มหาวิทยาลัยเกอเธ แห่งแฟรงค์เฟิร์ต เยอรมนี (Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main) จะมาบรรยายเรื่อง “Bangkok as a ‘Bush’: Preliminary findings on African migrants facing Asia” อังคารที่ 1 เมษายน 13:30-16:30 ท่ีชั้น 4 ตึกสังคมสงเคราะห์ ธรรมศาสตร์ ท่าพระจันทร์

ศาสตราจารย์ Diawara กำลังเริ่มโครงการวิจัยเกี่ยวกับเครือข่ายการค้าของชาวแอฟริกาที่มาค้าขายและพำนักอยู่ในกรุงเทพฯ เขาเพิ่งมาประเทศไทยเป็นครั้งแรก บทวิเคราะห์เบื้องต้นจากการสัมภาษณ์นักธุรกิจรายย่อยชาวแอฟริกาจำนวนหนึ่งจะแสดงให้เห็นเครือข่ายการค้าข้ามแดนที่เชื่อมโยงกับแนวคิดของชาวแอฟริกาเรื่องการออกจาก “กระท่อม” (the hut) เข้าไปผจญภัยใน “ป่า” (the bush) นอกจากนั้น นี่จะเป็นโอกาสอันดีที่นักวิชาการไทยจะได้ทำความรู้จักกับโลกวิชาการในแอฟริกา

abstract

The bush (gunne in Soninke, a language mostly spoken in the borderland of Mali, Mauritania and Senegal) means the place beyond our own. It starts at the outskirts of the place where one lives, be it a city, a village or a tiny hamlet. Gunne is not a matter of vegetation; it can also mean a foreign place or country, even a continent, such as Asia. Although the bush is beyond one’s knowledge, it is part and parcel of one’s horizon of expectation. Why is this particular bush so appealing to the youth? Which role does play Bangkok? What about Thailand? This question raises the need to scrutinize the context of Asia as an emerging destination.
